Junts per Catalunya presents amendment to the entire

The parliamentary group of Junts per Catalunya has presented an amendment to the entire Catalan budget project, according to reports from Catalunya Ràdio and the Catalan News Agency (ACN). This amendment was registered shortly before the established deadline expired. It should be noted that last week, Junts had already presented an amendment to the entire budget accompanying law. Despite attempts at negotiation by the Catalan government, talks stalled due to the proposal for a 99% inheritance tax bonus put forward by Junts per Catalunya, led by Carles Puigdemont.

Debate in Parliament and Government options

Parliament will debate the amendments to the entirety presented by Junts per Catalunya, the CUP, the Commons, Vox, Ciudadanos and the PP this Wednesday. With the presentation of the amendment by Junts, the Government is left without options and will have to negotiate with the commons if it does not want the budgets to return to the starting box. Jéssica Albiach’s party has made it clear that its support for the accounts is conditional on the liquidation of the Hard Rock project.

ERC and its complicated position

ERC’s position is complicated, since the PSC also conditions its support on the approval of the Hard Rock project. However, the socialists demand that the project be approved. This condition has been present since the 2023 budget negotiations and has not yet materialized due to the complexity of the issue and the Catalan government’s lack of capacity to influence the timing.

Government pressure and rejection of Junts proposals

The vice president of the Government, Laura Vilagrà, has pressured the commons to negotiate without taking into account the Hard Rock project. Vilagrà stated in an interview in Ser Cataluña that the common people must seek the common good and she has ruled out any agreement with Junts to reform the inheritance tax because she considers that the party’s proposals are maximalist and neoliberal.
