The socialist youth question the position of the PNV
In the context of the electoral contest, the youth of the PSE-EE (JSE-EGAZ) have released a video in which they strongly criticize the PNV, their coalition partner, in relation to the controversy over the state housing law. This law, promoted by the Government of Pedro Sánchez, has generated disagreements, being one of the few issues on which the PNV has expressed disagreements. Furthermore, in Euskadi, the PNV has filed an appeal before the Constitutional Court, as have the communities governed by the PP and the Catalan Parliament, despite the fact that the responsible councilor is of socialist affiliation, Iñaki Arriola.
Criticism on social networks
In the campaign on social networks, an image of a cat with the party’s logo hitting another with that of the PNV has been spread, accompanied by press headlines and the phrase “hoping that the PNV will stop its hypocrisy and dare to execute policies.” “effective housing measures to improve the lives of young people [sic].”
Past and current disagreements
The socialist youth also criticize that the PNV did not support the regional Housing regulations of 2015, which included the right to housing for the first time in Spain. Furthermore, they point out that in the past, the PNV argued the need for state regulations to provide “legal certainty” to the measures required in Euskadi.
Long-standing disagreements
Disagreements over housing are not recent. In July, the intention to appeal to the Constitutional Court by the PNV of the shared Basque Government was announced. The PSE-EE opposed it and, in recent months, the Arriola area has begun to implement the Housing law. The nationalists have denied that this is a question of left versus right, arguing an “unprecedented” invasion of powers that reminds them of the provincial abolition of 1839. Given that EH Bildu supported the state regulations and continues to do so, the PNV insists on which is the only sovereigntist formation that does not perceive a centralizing spirit.
