A Day of Claim and Celebration

March 8, International Women’s Day, is an emblematic date that commemorates the historic fight for equal rights and opportunities for all women. In Solsona and Solsonès, this day becomes a moment of vindication, celebration and reflection on the diversity of female bodies, experiences and aspirations.

Diverse Events for All Tastes

From March 8 to the end of May, Solsona and Solsonès will host a wide range of activities under the motto “Our Bodies, Our Lives”. These initiatives include rallies, talks, workshops, theater performances and exhibitions, all designed to raise awareness, inspire and celebrate the diversity of women.

Claiming Normalized Rights

The 8M is an opportunity to remember that many of the rights that should be considered normal for women are still being fought for. This year’s programming in Solsona and Solsonès highlights the need to normalize respect for female bodies, freedom of sexual expression and equal opportunities in all areas of life.

Concentrations and Reading of Manifestos

On March 8, several rallies will take place in Solsona and Sant Llorenç de Morunys. These concentrations will culminate with the reading of manifestos that will present the demands and aspirations of women today.

Science and Literature at the Service of Equality

Solsciència, a new entity in Solsona, organizes a talk on the role of women in science. Local scientists will share their experiences and perspectives, inspiring young women to pursue careers in STEM. Additionally, renowned writer Marta Pessarrodona will present her essay “Donasses,” which explores the history and contributions of women to society.

Public Space and Body Diversity

On March 9, the Estel cooperative invites a public action in Plaza del Camp to rethink public space from a gender perspective. This initiative is part of the DiverCity participatory process, which seeks to create more inclusive and equitable spaces for all people.

Health, Wellbeing and Empowerment

The Solsona Health Center will host two workshops focused on women’s health. These workshops will address topics such as the menopause transition and changes in the menstrual cycle, providing information and practical tools to improve female well-being.

The Pleasurable Journey of Female Sexuality

On March 14, psychologist Mireia Darder will give a talk on female sexuality and the need to undo the taboos and restrictions that have historically oppressed women. This talk will explore the potential for pleasure and freedom in female sexual expression.

Breaking the Silence on Perinatal Grief

On March 15, a colloquium will address perinatal grief, a socially silenced pain. Experts and women who have experienced this type of grief will share their testimonies, creating a safe space for dialogue and healing.

Aging, a Celebratory Stage

In Sant Llorenç de Morunys, the writer Anna Freixas will lead a colloquium on the aging of women. This colloquium will challenge the stereotypes and taboos associated with aging, encouraging women to embrace this stage of life with freedom and fullness.

Art as a Vehicle of Expression

The 8M program in Solsona and Solsonès also includes a series of shows and artistic performances. The poet Adriana Bertran will present “Dir per guarir”, a poetry show that explores the vulnerabilities, violence and hopes of women. In addition, the play “La tip de l’iceberg” and the performance “Nues” will delve into topics such as pleasure, desire and motherhood, inviting reflection and dialogue.

The Image of 8M: A Symbol of Freedom and Movement

The image of 8M in Solsona and Solsonès, created by designer Erika Escudero, represents movement and freedom through the female body. This image, which fuses a human figure with an oreneta, symbolizes the connection between nature and personal expression, reminding us that our bodies are ours and that we should celebrate and reclaim them as spaces of empowerment.

Education for Equality

The Information and Care Service for Women (SIAD) of Solsonès and the Educational Service of Solsonès have created pedagogical material for educational centers in the region. This material addresses topics such as sexuality, body diversity and aesthetic pressure, promoting emotional and sexual education based on equality and respect.
