Unió de Pagesos calls a rally in front of the Catalan Chamber to request urgent measures for the countryside
This Tuesday afternoon, the Parliament of Catalonia is holding a monographic debate on agriculture, at the request of the Junts parliamentary group. The agricultural union has presented a new resolution proposal that includes the main demands of the sector, such as the creation of a drought compensation fund, administrative simplification, improving the profitability of agricultural products, the defense of the rights of farmers and ranchers against large areas and industry, and the promotion of local and quality consumption. Union of Farmers hopes that the Parliament will approve this proposal and that the Government will put it into practice as soon as possible.
The debate comes after three weeks of farmers’ protests on Catalan roads
During the last three weeks, the agricultural sector has taken the lead in various mobilizations throughout the Catalan territory, with road closures and rallies in front of different institutions. The farmers have thus wanted to express their discomfort and their indignation at the lack of response from the public authorities to their extreme situation.
