Junts Defends the Amnesty Agreement
The Junts party has celebrated the agreement reached between the PSOE, Junts and ERC to unblock the amnesty. The general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, has stated that this agreement protects the norm from biased interpretations by certain judges.
The Problem: Prevaricating Judges
Turull has pointed out that the current problem does not lie in the amnesty law itself, but in the judges who try to boycott it. He has criticized judges Manuel García Castellón and Joaquín Aguirre for their attempts to complicate the application of the amnesty.
According to Turull, these judges have openly declared their intention to hinder the amnesty, which represents a clear prevarication. He has highlighted that, although many judges will apply the amnesty, the Supreme Court has a decisive influence on jurisprudence.
The Return of Puigdemont
Turull has indicated that the decision to return to Spain corresponds solely to former president Carles Puigdemont. However, he has estimated that the final approval of the amnesty could occur in mid-May.
Future Negotiations
Turull has called on the PSOE to hold a new negotiation to move forward with the General State Budgets (PGE). He has noted that the amnesty was a prerequisite for the inauguration.
Although the Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, has taken the agreement for the accounts as done, Turull has avoided guaranteeing the support of Junts. He has stated that his party is willing to negotiate, but will not advance his requests or make exaggerated demands.
The Path Toward Self-Determination
Turull has emphasized that the amnesty law does not resolve the underlying political conflict, but rather puts an end to repression. He has stated that now the objective is to generate a substantive negotiation with the Government on equal terms.
According to Turull, the amnesty is a step towards self-determination, which is the ultimate goal of Junts.
