The current situation
The war following the cause of the Democratic Tsunami in the prosecution of the Supreme Court and, in turn, in the curia of the fiscal ministry, does not end. On the contrary, it continues. This morning was the new test, in a new and tense meeting of the fiscal council. The agenda of the conclave was to appoint a handful of changes in different superior and provincial prosecutors of the State, but the second part was focused on the internal battle that the institution has experienced.
The request for protection
The two Chamber Prosecutors, heads of the Criminal section, have brought to debate and vote a request to grant “protection to prosecutor Álvaro Redondo”. An embargo is a procedure for the protection and defense of prosecutors that is claimed from their colleagues when they see their work or integrity threatened. Redondo was the prosecutor on duty who issued the first official opinion on whether the cause of the Democratic Tsunami could be considered terrorism and whether it was necessary to go to the Supreme Court if he considered that the president-in-exile Carles Puigdemont had anything to do with it. An opinion with which, in the end, he opposed it and which caused a long-lasting and intense internal debate to break out.
Articles against his person
Redondo’s decision, and the subsequent leak of a first draft that he sent to the court prosecutor (and of the Trial) Fidel Cadena, generated a media attack by land, sea and air against Redondo and the State Attorney General , Álvaro García Ortiz, whom the right-wing media accused of pressuring the prosecutor to change his mind.
The granting of protection
Once the storm passed, Redondo requested protection from the Board of Criminal Prosecutors of the Supreme Court for “feeling attacked in several press articles”. Today’s vote was, according to the sources consulted, “surprising”. The Council has granted protection, yes, now “with the quality vote of the State Attorney General”. García Ortiz has saved Redondo’s request after a vote in which the two born members, the two elective members of the UPF and the member of the APIF have shown themselves in favor and the six members of the Association of Prosecutors , conservative, against. Interestingly, Redondo has the card of the Association of Prosecutors. Therefore, not even his own people voted for him and he was saved by the attorney general who is willing to resist the onslaught and maintain his position.
