The Bisbal d’Empordà seeks to improve the water supply
The Bisbal d’Empordà has started the procedures to be able to municipalize the water supply in the municipality, with the aim of improving the state of the current network. This decision comes after a legal dispute that has affected the maintenance of the service.
The possibility of municipalizing the municipal service
The possibility of municipalizing the municipal water service in La Bisbal d’Empordà arose in 2017, when the City Council terminated the contract with Sorea (currently Agbar) after a Generalitat commission considered an extension of the contract invalid existing until 2030. This decision was endorsed by the Catalan judiciary in 2021.
Municipal management as the best option
The current mayor, Òscar Aparicio (PSC), believes that the best option is the municipal management of the water supply. However, he has criticized the management of the previous government for not having prepared anything in the previous legislature.
Budget for the municipality
The planned budget for the municipalization of the water supply is 730,000 euros. This amount includes the change of the well pipe, the drafting of a master plan to assess the condition of the pipes, the replacement of the sewer network and a project to determine the cost of changing the distribution pipe of the water
Improvement of the current network
The current water supply network in La Bisbal d’Empordà is in a bad state due to the conflict with Sorea, which has caused insufficient maintenance of the service. This has led to constant breakdowns in recent years. The City Council recognizes the need to improve the pipes and the rest of the network as one of its priorities.
