The controversy around the citizen list
The proposal for a citizen list for the next Catalan elections has generated controversy within the Catalan National Assembly (ANC). While the president of the independence entity, Dolors Feliu, has supported the idea, several internal members have expressed their disagreement. These critics argue that direct participation in institutional politics goes against the founding principles of the ANC as a cross-cutting, non-partisan organization. Furthermore, they fear that this proposal will further divide the independence movement and weaken their position in the elections.
The resignation of the ANC treasurer
The controversy surrounding the citizen list has led to the resignation of the ANC treasurer, Ada Ferrer. Ferrer reportedly resigned due to her opposition to the citizen list proposal and in defense of the values of transversality that have characterized the ANC. Although the exact reasons for her resignation are not known, it is speculated that the use of the association’s financial resources to create a website for the citizen list was one of the factors that influenced her decision.
Validation of the proposal
Although the citizen list proposal has not yet been validated by ANC members, it is expected to be voted on from this week until March 14. Critics of the proposal have pointed out that financial resources from the association have been allocated to the project, such as the creation of a website that cost 15,000 euros. This situation has generated more controversy and led to the resignation of the ANC treasurer.
The manifesto against the citizen list
Some 130 members of the Assembly have signed a manifesto against the citizen list proposal. Among the signatories are prominent members of the ANC, such as the singer-songwriter Lluís Llach and former vice presidents of the Assemblea. The manifesto argues that the proposal is highly divisive and goes against the transversal nature of the entity. This internal opposition demonstrates the lack of consensus around the citizen list and its viability in the Catalan elections.
