The CUP breaks with the Government and rejects the budgets agreed with the PSC

The anti-capitalists call the negotiations closed and propose a full amendment

The Government will not have the support of the CUP to push forward the budgets of the Generalitat after the agreement with the PSC. This was announced by the cupaires after a meeting this Friday at the Palau de la Generalitat, where they informed the Executive of Pere Aragonès of their refusal to agree on the accounts for 2024. The anti-capitalists recalled that they had already ignored the budget proposals of the Government for 2023, without even meeting with them, and that this year they have only maintained an exchange of documents without reaching any agreement. In a statement, CUP deputies Xavier Pellicer and Mar Ampurdanés have expressed their “indignation” at the understanding with the socialists.

ERC renounces left-wing and pro-independence policies, according to the CUP

“We are outraged because ERC has opted for the easy way out by abandoning those left-wing and pro-independence policies that our country demands”, said the deputy at the exit of the meeting, assuring that it is unfeasible to reach an agreement with the Government that “lives of the springs of the PSC”. Throughout the negotiation process, the cupaires have demanded that the Aragonese executive distance himself from the socialists and their country model, with projects such as the Hard Rock, warning that this was the president’s “last chance” to make a change to the legislature that has decided to comply, without advancing the elections.

Thus, Ampurdanés has asked the Government to annul the agreement with the PSC that “consolidates a model of a failed country”, noting that “the legislature has thrown itself into the ditch”. Faced with this lack of agreement, the CUP will propose to its bases the convenience of presenting an amendment to all the accounts for 2024, which the Government has approved this week and which have already begun their parliamentary processing without, as yet, having the necessary support to approve them.

Two possible partners

This Wednesday, Pere Aragonès called on the forces that had supported the budgets during the legislature to do so again this 2024, being, according to him, “better” than in 2022 and 2023. This request was addressed to Junts and the commons, while it excluded the CUP, since the anti-capitalists have not approved any of the three budgets presented by the Government of Aragon. Meanwhile, the commons continue to demand that the Executive bury the Hard Rock if they want to continue negotiating—Aragonès insists that the accounts do not allocate a single euro to the project—while Junts very harshly criticized the agreement with the PSC. However, from the executive they are confident that the accounts will go ahead.
