The Record of Salvador Puig Antich and the Spanish Justice

The years pass – half a century, already – and the figure of Salvador Puig Antich continues to be in the foreground, symbolizing the resistance to the Franco regime and, at the same time, the primitive intolerance of the Spanish justice system. That trial/parody of 1974 was a procedure to give a minimal appearance of legality to a murder that had already been decided and the extreme cruelty, the brutality of the vile club was and continues to be a warning to Catalan society.

Violence and the Perpetuation of Privileges

That regime and its subsequent evolution have wanted to make it clear that they will resort to violence when they consider it necessary and for this reason they will prevent, as many times as necessary, the revision of that death penalty that is embedded in the souls of the generations that they lived with an anxiety of such magnitude that they have passed it on to their children and grandchildren. The memory of Salvador Puig Antich is what morally separates a democratic and humanistic ‘us’ from a violent ‘them’, with the vileness of its eternal club in hand.

The Fight Against Tyranny and the Perpetuation of Privileges

Fifty years have passed and everything remains in exactly the same position. Catalan society continues to be horrified by that State crime and the immediate heirs of those who murdered him are comfortably planted on that political vandalism that guarantees them the perpetuation of privileges. Good against evil, reason against barbarism, democracy against tyranny… We will never stop fighting them.
