Stability in unemployment figures
During the month of February, unemployment data in the counties of Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre have shown relative stability compared to the previous month. With a slight decrease of 0.18%, the number of unemployed people stood at 41,217, registering 74 people less than in January.
Compared to the same month in 2023, a reduction of 2.63% is observed, representing 1,113 fewer people registered as unemployed than in February of the previous year.
Creation of jobs and contracts
In terms of job creation, 12,459 new positions were created, showing an increase of 3.92% compared to the previous year. In addition, an increase of 0.80% has been observed in the number of workers registered with Social Security, with a total of 2,614 new workers.
In the services sector, the highest number of unemployed was registered, with a total of 29,160 people without employment.
Demographic and sectoral details
The distribution of the 41,217 unemployed in the Tarragona and Ebrenca counties shows that 24,147 are women and 17,070 are men. Of the unemployed under the age of 25, 953 have had no previous work experience.
By sector, there are 1,540 unemployed people in agriculture, 3,591 in industry, 3,570 in construction and 29,160 in the services sector. In addition, 3,356 people registered as unemployed in Tarragona and the Ebro have not had any previous work experience.
Labor contracts
With regard to contracts, an increase of 8.54% has been observed in the number of indefinite contracts compared to the previous year, with a total of 604 new contracts. In comparison, temporary contracts have been reduced by 16.02%, with 1,722 fewer contracts signed this month.
In total, 16,701 contracts have been formalized, showing a decrease of 6.27% compared to the previous month, but an increase of 8.54% compared to February of the previous year.
