The United States carries out a drone attack in Baghdad
The United States has carried out a drone attack in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, in which they have eliminated a commander of a Shiite militia. This action has been confirmed by the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (Centcom). The attack took place on Wednesday evening and consisted of the impact of a drone on the commander’s vehicle while he was driving through a district of Baghdad.
The commander was the leader of a pro-Iranian group
According to Centcom, the eliminated commander was the leader of the pro-Iranian group Kataib Hezbollah. This group has been responsible for several attacks against US forces deployed in Syria and Iraq since last October. The Pentagon links this commander to an attack in which three American soldiers died on January 29 on the border of Jordan and Syria.
Reactions and condemnation of the American action
The action of the United States has generated reactions and condemnation from the Security Forces of Iraq and pro-Iranian militias in that country and in Yemen. The Security Media Cell, which serves as the mouthpiece of the Iraqi Security Forces, has held the United States and Washington-led international coalition forces responsible for the security repercussions of this action and the stability of Iraq.
