Water trips
If it doesn’t rain this spring as God commands, the Catalan government will activate the plan to bring water in ships from the Sagunto desalination plant, in the Valencian Country, to the port of Barcelona. This is what Councilor Mascort and Minister Ribera have agreed this week, with the approval of President Mazón, as a solution to alleviate the effects of the drought emergency ahead of the summer. The Spanish government will pay for water and Catalan, transport and connections to the port. This is what has transpired publicly, but nowhere have I found the cost of these water journeys from one autonomous community to another and how it will affect taxpayers’ pockets. I also do not know the underlying reasons why the operation of transferring water from the Ebro River has been discarded, which perhaps many of us would agree that, due to the abundant flow of water it carries, which even forces the opening of the gates of the Mequinensa swamp, should be the first option, plan A. It is not understood that on the one hand the Ebro is untouchable while the Ter river is expressed to the maximum with an impact on its ecological flow to cover the needs of the country’s capital. And every day there are more voices from the regions of Girona talking about discrimination and territorial abuse. I’m really praying for showers.
