Cycle of talks for better waste management
Alcoi City Council has started an interesting program of talks dedicated to raising awareness about recycling, specifically aimed at the elderly population. These sessions, which will take place throughout the month of January, are being held in several senior centers in the city.
Myths and realities about recycling
Titled ‘Myths and legends about urban waste management’, the series is part of the initiatives of the Department of the Environment, framed within the Action Plan ‘Alcoi, a city friendly to older people’. The first session was held on January 8 at the Oliver center, with a great reception from the attendees.
Calendar of activities
The next events are scheduled for January 15, 16, 22 and 23, in different centers of the city. On Wednesday the 15th, the talk will be held in La Plaça at 5pm, while the following day it will be held in the Zona Nord. The last two sessions will take place in the Zona Alta and Batoi, respectively.
The impact of older people on the community
Aroa Mira, Councilor for Senior Citizens, has stressed the importance of the active participation of this group in society: “The municipal government seeks to address the aging of the population, and we believe that a city that respects and integrates senior citizens is a city for everyone. Senior citizens can be agents of change and it is essential that they have a voice in the transformation of their environments.”
A commitment to sustainability
Since 2019, Alcoi has been part of the ‘Age-Friendly Cities’ project, an initiative of the World Health Organization. This project seeks to address global demographic challenges such as population aging and urbanization, with the aim of creating accessible environments that integrate older people, adapting services and structures to their needs.
