A New Commitment to Security
The political parties Junts and ERC have joined forces to ask the Government of the Generalitat to take effective measures to increase safety in casteller events. This initiative stems from the need to regulate the health devices that must be present during these events, an aspect that is currently not regulated.
In Search of a Legal Framework
With the aim of improving safety conditions, the two parties have proposed a revision of Decree 30/2015, which focuses on the regulation of minimum sanitary means. Deputy Raquel Sans has highlighted the importance of establishing clear rules to guarantee that casteller performances can be carried out safely.
Dialogue with the Sector
The dialogue process maintained with the casteller groups and the Coordinator has been fundamental in arriving at this proposal. According to Sans, the objective is to ensure that safety nets and suitable terrain are available to rehearse with complete confidence.
Cultural Values and Security
Montse Ortiz, a Junts MP, expressed her satisfaction with the discussion in Parliament about the casteller phenomenon, which is a pillar of Catalan culture. She recalled that her party had already raised questions about the visibility that casteller days received through the media.
Innovation in Security
In addition to regulating health devices, the proposal includes collaboration with research centers to improve the safety of castellers, focusing on improving helmets and mouth guards, key elements for the safety of participants.
Secure Future for Castellers
Finally, Junts and ERC have requested the creation of a line of subsidies aimed at improving the conditions of attendance at the venues of the castelleras, as well as guaranteeing the installation of automatic defibrillators at the events. This proposal seeks to ensure that the planning of each day includes a health device adapted to the magnitude of the event and the complexity of the castells.
