A year of literary celebration
In an emblematic moment commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Documenta Bookstore, the 45th Documenta Award has been awarded to two emerging talents: Víctor Recort and Irene Zurrón, recognized with the prize jointly. Eric del Arco, one of the members of the jury, emphasizes that the purpose of this prize is to identify literary voices that not only bring freshness to the current landscape, but also be references for future generations.
Cut and his vision of masculinity
Víctor Recort presents his work ‘The shouting’, a novel that, according to Eugènia Broggi, publisher of the other, challenges the expectations of the genre thriller. With a prose that combines cultist Catalan and elements of pop culture, the author addresses topics such as paternity and masculinity in an environment that seems obsolete. The jury emphasized its ability to portray the decline of a form of masculinity and the humor full of melancholy that permeates the narrative.
The Recort proposal
For Cort, his novel is an exploration of opinions that the plot progresses, a creative process that allows him to discover hidden ideas as he writes. After publishing in Spanish, he chose to write in Catalan as a political decision, thus reflecting his connection with language and culture.
Zurrón: The nostalgia of childhood
On the other hand, Irene Zurrón, with ‘A black cat in the garden’, offers a collection of tales that explore childhood and adolescent experiences in the transition to adulthood. Broggi highlights his poetic prose and Zurrón’s ability to evoke the melancholy of characters seeking his place in the world. The subjects of detachment and inclusion are central in their narrative.
Reflections on nature
Zurrón, who has spent time in eco -criticism, wants to approach nature in a way that challenges essentialist notions. His work seeks to demystify family dynamics and human relationships, a perspective that brings depth to his narrative.
A future full of promises
Both authors, recognized for their originality and diversity of styles, plan to continue their literary career. Recort will keep the focus on the novel as a means of connecting with readers, while Zurrón expresses his desire to write with ambition, without losing the recreational component of writing.
With these two voices, the Catalan literary landscape is enriched, promising a vibrant future and full of innovation.
