An educational project in progress
The Plenary Council of Tarragona, which will be held on Friday, February 21, will have as its central topic the proposal to award an administrative concession for the creation of a university educational and vocational training center in module 5 of the historic Tabacalera.
EUSES Terres de l’Ebre, the only bidder
The initiative has been presented by the University School of Health and Sports (EUSES Terres de l’Ebre SL), a private institution linked to the Rovira i Virgili University. This center’s main objective is to offer the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, thus expanding the city’s educational offer.
Dignification of the Tabacalera
The City Council seeks to revitalize this municipal space with specialized training activities, turning La Tabacalera into a center of reference in training, culture and technology. This action is part of a broader plan to transform the area.
Economic aspects of the concession
The concession will be for a period of 39 years and 11 months, with an annual fee of 212,300 euros from the twentieth year. In addition, an amortization period of up to 20 years is established, during which the investments made will be considered as payment in kind.
Investment and future plans
The successful bidder must make an initial investment of 3,696,089.74 euros to adapt the 2,864.40 square meter space. This infrastructure will be used exclusively for university training and the management of related activities. Once the concession period has ended, the City Council will regain possession of the facilities.
Expectations and reactions
The Minister of Territory, Nacho García, has expressed his satisfaction with the project, highlighting that it is a priority for the departments of Urban Planning and Sports. For his part, the Minister of Sports, Mario Soler, has highlighted the importance of this project to meet the demand for studies in the city, which currently forces many students to travel abroad.
Steps to follow
If the award obtains the necessary support in the Plenary Council, the expected next step will be the presentation of the technical project by the awardee, which must be validated by municipal technicians before work begins.
