Budget increase and validation of the territory
The Rovira i Virgili University has given the green light this Thursday to its budget proposal for 2025, which amounts to 145.8 million euros. This represents an increase of 5.96% compared to the previous year. This proposal will now have to be ratified by the Social Council next week, a body that includes both members of the university and representatives of the community and local institutions, underlining the importance of territorial validation.
New addition of teaching staff and stabilization
Within the framework of the Governing Council meeting, an innovative package has been approved that includes the call for 68 lecturer positions, in the context of the María Goyri program. These additions will become effective in the next academic year, with the aim of stabilizing the teaching staff after six years. In addition, the URV is implementing a recruitment plan to incorporate 75 new teachers over three years.
Significant investments in infrastructure
The rector, Josep Pallarès, highlighted that part of the new budget will be allocated to an investment plan of 17.6 million euros in infrastructure, which includes projects to improve and modernize various spaces at the university.
Key works and energy improvements
Among the most relevant works, the renovation of the Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology stands out, with an investment of 7.2 million euros, which seeks to improve energy efficiency and accessibility. The works, which began in September, are estimated to be completed in February 2026.
Sustainability and security projects
On the Catalunya campus, improvements will be made to the air conditioning and decarbonization system for an amount of 2 million euros, while the Plaça de la Concordia will also be transformed with an investment of 1.6 million. In addition, fire safety systems will be installed on several campuses, with a total investment of 900,000 euros.
Action plan for improving teaching
The announcement of the 68 lecturer positions is part of a broader effort to reduce temporary teaching staff. These positions, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, will contribute to better educational quality, as each position will reduce the teaching load of associate professors.
Labor aspects and social commitments
In addition to the new additions, the Governing Council has addressed other issues such as job improvements for staff, changes to the Student Council regulations, and a protocol to prevent gender-based violence and harassment, reaffirming the university’s commitment to a safe and inclusive environment.
