A Deep Analysis of Local Culture
Yesterday afternoon, the Tarragona Theater lobby was the scene of a significant event that brought together a hundred citizens, representatives of cultural entities and agents to present a comprehensive study of the cultural situation in the city. This report, as a result of collaboration with Rovira i Virgili University, seeks to make a clear diagnosis of community perceptions of culture.
A key document for cultural action
The document presented is the result of a participatory process that has taken place in recent months, collecting the voices of the citizenry through work tables, days and surveys. This initiative not only seeks to account for the work done, but also aims to lay the foundations that will guide the future cultural actions of the City Council.
Main conclusions and challenges identified
The document highlights several areas that need care, such as the creation of dialogue spaces between cultural sectors, the application of working strategies adapted to the community and the promotion of effective communication. In addition, it emphasizes the importance of supporting local cultural manifestations and improving accessibility to culture for all citizens.
Futuristic actions
The proposals collected will translate into specific actions within the Strategic Plan, which will cover various cultural sectors, including the performing arts, music, intangible heritage and literature. This will allow a more effective response to identified challenges.
Citizen Participation: a key element
From November 2023 to the end of 2024, more than 1,500 people have contributed through various participatory actions, including nine theme days and sectoral tables that address crucial aspects of culture in Tarragona.
Thematic days
The conference has dealt with varied topics, from the gender perspective to the economic impact of culture, offering a space for debates and reflections that will enrich the cultural fabric of the city.
A map of cultural resources
As part of the diagnosis, a cultural resource map that contains active entities and projects in Tarragona has been developed, creating an interactive tool that will facilitate access to cultural information and will promote collaboration between different actors in the sector.
Collaboration and commitment
The participation of various entities and professionals has been essential in this process. Organizations such as Cabinet Ceres and the Bastida Participation have played a key role in the promotion of participatory tables, while experts from the URV and other institutions have made their knowledge to enrich the debate.
A promising futur
Rovira i Virgili University will present the final report to the public in March 2025, with the aim of sharing the results and strategic lines that will guide cultural development in Tarragona. This is a fundamental step towards a future where culture is accessible, diverse and participatory.
The Tarragona community continues to work to build a vibrant cultural ecosystem that reflects its richness and diversity. Citizens’ voices are essential in this process, and the Tarragona Cultura Strategic Plan is an opportunity to make this vision a reality.
