A disturbing challenge on the beaches of Alicante

Alicante City Council has decided to take legal action against the popular Catalan YouTuber Nil Ojeda, known for his controversial initiatives on social networks. Earlier this summer, Ojeda launched a challenge encouraging her followers to fake drowning in front of lifeguards, with the promise of receiving products from her clothing brand, ‘Milfshakes’. This situation has generated great concern among local authorities, who fear for the safety of bathers.

False alarms create chaos

Several young people decided to follow this challenge, causing false alarms on the beaches. In a recent incident in Guardamar del Segura, two young people were fined by the Civil Guard after simulating drowning, an act that has been considered extremely irresponsible. The authorities have expressed their concern about the consequences that these actions can have, both for lifeguards and for the general safety of beach users.

Legal actions underway

In response to this situation, the City Council has decided to file a complaint against Ojeda for feigning danger, as well as for violating the civic coexistence ordinance. Local officials have reminded that making a false emergency is a serious offense under the Penal Code, and have stressed the seriousness of playing with the lives and safety of others.

Reaction of local officials

The Councilor for Legal Advice, Manuel Villar, and the Councilor for Tourism, Ana Poquet, already expressed their indignation in July, regretting that people’s lives were put at risk to achieve fame on social networks. The City Council called for responsibility, noting that, in addition, more than twenty drowning deaths have been recorded on the coasts of the Valencian Country this summer.

A warning for future challenges

With these actions, the City Council not only seeks to sanction irresponsible behavior, but also to send a clear message about the importance of beach safety. The concern about possible coincidences between these challenges and actual drowning situations is a reminder that life and safety are not a game, and that authorities must remain alert to these new trends that can have devastating consequences.
