An unexpected incident triggers an investigation
A 45 -year -old man has been arrested by the Tarragona Urban Guard in relation to a case of banking scam. The investigation began after a local resident reported the loss of his portfolio and the unauthorized use of his credit card.
The victim recounts his experience
The victim explained that on January 28, while making purchases, he discovered that his wallet had disappeared. After checking in an earlier trade that had not left his bag, he received multiple notices from his bank on transactions made with his card, which included a purchase of amount 60 euros at a tobacconist.
The steps of research
After submitting the complaint, the Basic Research Unit (UIB) began to collect evidence. One of the most important steps was to obtain the recordings of the safety cameras of the tobacconist. When reviewing the images, he was observed how the individual made purchases using the Contactless payment system, but he stopped when asked to enter the PIN for a last transaction.
Identification and detention of the suspect
The analysis of recordings allowed researchers to identify the alleged perpetrator of the scams. Although he cannot be directly linked to his portfolio, he was determined to be aware of the illicit use of the card he was using.

During the incident, three purchases were recorded, two of them successfully completed and one last one. This situation highlights the vulnerability of credit cards and the need to be a careful in transactions.
