A new Christmas event in town

Christmas in Barcelona is getting a new boost with the imminent arrival of the Christmas Festival, a celebration that will take place from December 20 to 30 in the iconic Plaça de Catalunya. This eagerly awaited initiative offers a range of free activities that will take place every day between 11 am and 9 pm.

Festival presentation

The inaugural press conference was held at the Palau de la Virreina, where Anna Lleó, head of festivals at ICUB, shared the details of the festival. Accompanied by participating artists and groups, Lleó defined the event as ‘an essential event that promotes art for all ages, fully accessible to the public’.

A magical scene in the square

Plaça de Catalunya will be transformed into a small theatrical city, thanks to a large stage designed by Carles Piera. With 200 symbolic windows that will evoke the idea of home and openness to the world, the space will be illuminated with Christmas decorations, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the city’s skyline.

A varied program

With a total of 25 shows, the festival presents 13 premieres in Barcelona, with the participation of 17 performing arts companies and eight musical groups. The program includes 334 music, theater, dance and circus performances, divided into four time slots: family mornings, circus and dance afternoons, concert evenings and theater nights.

Christmas Seasons

Upon arrival, visitors will discover four stations, each with a different theatre company. These ‘Christmas Stations’ will present small works that combine object and visual theatre, with the participation of artists such as Escarlata and Les Pinyes. The aim is to create a community experience, where each show begins and ends simultaneously.

Music for the whole family

The mornings will close with a performance by the family group Ambauka, who will present a reduced version of their show ‘Peti qui peti’, with the aim of getting attendees into the Christmas spirit.

The circus as the protagonist

Each evening, at 8 p.m., the festival will culminate with ‘Natalis’, a proposal by the Animal Religion company that will bring together circus artists, musicians and an opera singer. With a magical narrative that will involve children as protagonists, the show promises a cosmic journey full of light and music.

Christmas activities in Barcelona

Citizens and tourists who experience Christmas in Barcelona can enjoy various activities, such as Christmas lighting, themed markets and the traditional procession of the Magi. The city offers a wide range of options to make these parties an unforgettable experience.

A Christmas full of proposals

Attendees can expect a packed schedule of events, with Christmas markets, immersive shows and more, to ensure every moment of Christmas is magical and filled with joy.
