A Progressive New Deal
The first mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, expressed his satisfaction this Thursday for the collaboration of Esquerra Republicana and BComú in the debate on the tax ordinances. In a conversation broadcast by TV3, he emphasized that the recent vote in the Economy committee represents a positive sign to foster the confidence and dialogue necessary for future decisions.
The Union of Progressive Groups
Collboni has stated that, for the first time during his mandate, a progressive agreement has been established that allows progress in the approval of ordinances. In addition, he stressed that it is unacceptable that the majority of the left cannot find a consensus, pointing out that there are several issues that unite the progressive parties in the city.
Approach to Budgets
With this basis, the mayor has urged the groups to support the budgets in order to promote strategic projects, such as the connection of the tram to Diagonal. He remarked on the importance of being respectful of the political times of the parties, which are approaching key congresses, adding that ‘from December we will be able to address it’.
Reflections on the America’s Cup
In relation to the America’s Cup, Collboni has shared his positive opinion about the event, stating that ‘the objectives set have been achieved’. The first mayor has been calm before the possibility of an audit of the accounts, defending that “things have been managed properly” and expressing his confidence in the internal control systems.
Positioning of BComú
On the other hand, Janet Sanz, spokeswoman for BComú, has made it clear that her training will not be integrated into the municipal government. In addition, he has warned that his votes for the ordinances are not guaranteed. Sanz has commented that his position seeks to ensure that budget policy meets the needs of citizens and curbs the elitist trend.
Criticism of the Copa America
Regarding the America’s Cup, Sanz has insisted on the need for a comprehensive audit, stating that ‘we must take the investigation to the end’, and stressing that an event of this magnitude should not be repeated without due transparency.
