A Festival That Crosses Literary Borders
From February 10 to 16, the city of Barcelona transforms into the epicenter of the noir novel with BCNegra, a festival that stands out for its rich programming and its ability to connect authors from different backgrounds. This year, the cities of Barcelona, Marseille and Naples will be the protagonists of this literary event, which will bring together more than 130 participants in a series of varied activities.
Inauguration and Exhibitions
The festival will begin with an exhibition entitled ‘Negra de tres colores: Barcelona, Marseille, Naples’ at the Jaume Fuster Library, curated by Quim Noguero. This exhibition, which opens on February 6, offers an in-depth look at the particularities of each city in the noir genre. In addition, writer Margarida Aritzeta and other representatives of the participating cities will discuss their cultural identities.
Exciting Conversations and Live Music
The formal inauguration of BCNegra will take place on February 10th with roundtables in the Paral·lel 62 room, where topics such as childhood fears and the relationship of the black genre with the history of Barcelona will be discussed. The day will culminate with a concert by Quique González, who will explore the connections between music and literature.
Literature and Cinema: An Ongoing Dialogue
The festival not only focuses on literature, but also includes the screening of films related to the themes of the roman noir. Among the featured films are ‘Le mani sulla città’ and ‘Borsalino’, which will be screened at the Filmoteca and other spaces. This dialogue between literature and cinema will enrich the experience of attendees.
Pepe Carvalho Award: A Recognition for Literary Creation
One of the most anticipated moments of the festival is the presentation of the Pepe Carvalho Award, which this year goes to Algerian author Yasmina Khadra. Recognized for her work that addresses issues such as terrorism and colonialism, Khadra will share her reflections on the black genre and its social impact.
Various Activities: Workshops, Podcasts and Theater
In addition to roundtables and screenings, BCNegra offers a diverse program that includes workshops on crime novels, podcasts and even theatrical shows such as ‘Things You Only Know When You’re Dead.’ This variety of activities seeks to involve the public in the world of mystery and intrigue.
Final Thoughts on the Black Gender
BCNegra 2025 presents itself as a unique opportunity to explore the multiple dimensions of the noir novel, with a program that stands out for its diversity and depth. This festival not only celebrates literature, but also invites reflection on current social and cultural issues, demonstrating that the noir genre is much more than simple entertainment.
