An agreement that marks the future of education
The community of the Capuchins of the Mare del Divino Pastor has decided to collaborate with the Escola Pia de Catalunya to ensure the continuity of its educational project in Igualada. This decision, taken due to the economic difficulties the school was facing, seeks to preserve the educational heritage that they have cultivated for more than a century and a half.
Commitment to the community and professionals
The entity that manages the MDP Schools has expressed that this difficult decision is based on the desire to guarantee the job security of current workers and to provide quality training to students and their families. As of September 1, 2025, the Escola Pia d’Igualada will assume the management of the center, maintaining educational activity in the current facilities until the end of the 2025-26 academic year.
Expansion plans and new facilities
Looking to the future, Escola Pia plans to build a new building that will house the Nursery and Infant stages. This new infrastructure will be located on the site adjacent to the current school, located at the intersection of Avinguda Àngel Guimerà and the Valls road, with the aim of offering more suitable spaces for teaching.
Transparency and communication with families
The nuns of the congregation have decided to communicate this transition to families in advance to reaffirm their commitment to transparency and sincerity. The open house, scheduled for February 1, will continue as planned, for all those families interested in learning about the project.
The future of MDP Schools in Catalonia
Despite this change in Igualada, the other seven schools that the Capuchin Congregation has in Catalonia, including the one in Capellades, will continue with their educational projects, maintaining the essence of their work.
An educational legacy that endures
The Pia School, with a history of almost three centuries in Igualada, faces this new stage with the aim of continuing to offer quality education, committed to Christian values and with the responsibility of preserving the concerted educational offer in the city.
