The Tarragona Theater was the scene of a historic event this Thursday afternoon, where a study was presented that analyzes the cultural reality of the city and the opinions of its citizens on local culture. This call gathered about a hundred representatives of the artistic and cultural community, as well as citizens interested in contributing to the cultural development of Tarragona.
A key document for cultural transformation
The document, prepared by Rovira i Virgili University, is the result of various participatory activities that have taken place in recent months within the framework of the Tarragona Cultura Strategic Plan. With the aim of accounting for the community, this study collects the ideas and suggestions contributed by the citizens through work tables, days and surveys, and will serve as a guide for future municipal cultural initiatives.
Main conclusions and challenges identified
Among the most relevant conclusions is the need to establish spaces for dialogue and participatory tables that cover the various cultural sectors. In addition, it is proposed to adopt a more integrated working methodology with the community, as well as improve communication through digital and face -to -face channels. Other important aspects include support for local cultural initiatives, the diversification of the cultural offer and the creation of facilities and libraries plans that strengthen the Tarragona cultural system.
Futuristic actions in the strategic plan
The recommendations included in this study will be the basis for the formulation of specific actions that will be carried out in the same strategic plan. This will include specific initiatives in various fields such as the performing arts, music, visual arts, intangible heritage, and libraries, among others.
An exemplary participatory process
From November 2023 to the end of 2024, numerous participatory actions have been carried out, with the contribution of 1,500 citizens who have shared their perspectives on the current state of culture in Tarragona. In addition, 34 in -depth interviews have been performed with cultural managers and agents who have contributed their vision on the city’s cultural future.

With this diagnosis in hand, Tarragona is positioned for a significant cultural transformation, which seeks not only to revitalize the artistic scene, but also to ensure that culture is a fundamental pillar in the daily life of its citizens. The path that opens in front of the city is promising, and the voices of the community will play a crucial role in its implementation.
