Police operation in Corbera d’Ebre
The Catalan Police has carried out a significant operation in relation to drug trafficking, culminating in the arrest of a 58-year-old man in Mont-roig del Camp. The arrested person is suspected of being responsible for an illegal cultivation of marijuana, with 370 kilos of the drug hidden in a forest in Corbera d’Ebre.
A Well Organized Hideout
The operation revealed a sophisticated camouflage system. Officers located 1.5 meter deep holes, designed with a ventilation system, where the vacuum packed bags of marijuana were located. The holes were concealed with natural materials such as logs and plastic, making their detection difficult.
Technology in the Traffic Service
The discovery of these crops was facilitated by the installation of video surveillance cameras strategically located among the trees on the farm. Three devices, powered by solar panels, were capable of transmitting images to a mobile phone, allowing the detainee to monitor the area.
Economic Value and Legal Consequences
The amount of marijuana confiscated has an estimated black market value of more than 2.5 million euros. The arrested person was presented before the court of inquiry in Gandesa, where his legal situation will be in the hands of the judicial authorities.
An Environment Ready for Production
In addition to the marijuana holes, the property contained an irrigation system that indicated organized production. Agents also discovered several structures, including a construction shed and a temporary shed, that were used to store tools and materials for growing, as well as a space that appeared to be designed for lodging.
Futuristic Perspectives
The investigation remains active to trace the origin of the drug and its final destinations. With an increasingly complex drug-trafficking landscape, authorities are preparing to tackle new strategies to combat this problem.
