Reus City Council and the restaurant agree to extend the festival
The Reus City Council and the restaurant have agreed to extend the Roses de Reus festival with concerts and activities in order to compensate for the increase in taxes in the sector. This agreement comes after the council approved the increase in the tax ordinances, which includes a 40% increase in the terrace tax. With the aim of passing on the income from these fees to the economic activity of the sector, the City Council and the restaurant have decided to rethink the festival that already existed in the city. The new format of the Reus Roses festival will take place from May 2 to 5.
A more ambitious and diversified festival
This year’s festival will be more ambitious and will include street shows, children’s performances and concerts, among other activities. The full program of the festival will be presented next Monday. One of the novelties of this new format is that the contest will be extended from three to four days. This will involve an increase in the budget, which will go from 25,000 euros last year to 45,000 euros this year.
Positive agreement between the City Council and the restaurant
The talks between the Reus City Council and the representatives of the restaurant have been positive and profitable. According to the Councilor for General Services and Finance of Reus City Council, Manel Muñoz, an agreement has been reached to implement actions that may have a return in terms of the city. This agreement also coincided with the interests of the Reus Promotion Agency, which also wanted to rethink the festival.
Boost to the economic activity of the city center
The Association of Hoteliers (AEH) of Reus celebrates the agreement between the City Council and the restaurant. According to the president of the AEH, Víctor Perales, this agreement will encourage citizens to visit the restaurants during the days of the festival. It is sought that people are on the street and end up consuming in the premises of the city center. This initiative is especially important for downtown restaurateurs, who have suffered from the tax hike. However, premises outside the urban core will also be taken into account.
Positive expectations for the Roses de Reus festival
He hopes that the new format of the Roses de Reus festival will attract more visitors and generate more economic activity in the city. Traditionally, the weekend of May 2 to 5 has been slow for the restaurant industry in Reus, as it coincides with other activities outside the city. With the new format, it is expected that people staying in Reus and visitors from outside will contribute to an increase in economic activity in the restaurant sector.
