A project with historical vision
Lluís Coromina Verdaguer has been selected for the Historical Studies Scholarship President Premium.cat 2025, thanks to his research proposal on Laureà Dalmau i Pla, a Gironaer who left a deep imprint as a republican doctor, writer and politician. This scholarship, promoted by the Premium.cat Foundation with the support of the Diputació de Girona, offers € 6,000 to deepen the life and work of important republican figures from Girona.
A man of letters and commitment
Dalmau was not only a medicine professional, but also cultivated his passion for literature from a young age. He wrote numerous poetry in Catalan, which were recognized in the Floral Games in various Catalan localities. In addition, he contributed to magazines such as the Catalan scene and vibration, standing out for his literary sensitivity.
Political commitment and activism
In the political field, Laureà Dalmau was an active member of the Republican Nationalist Center in Girona. Together with Miquel de Palol, he founded the weekly Catalanity, a means of communication with a Catalan and republican approach. His political career was consolidated when he was elected Member of the May 1931 elections to be part of the Provisional Provincial Council of the Generalitat, where he played an important role as a speaker of the Núria Statute.
A life dedicated to health and politics
During the Civil War, Dalmau assumed the direction of the Hospital de Girona, significantly contributing to public health in a turbulent period. He was a member of the Republican Left of Catalonia, and was re -elected as a Member of the November 1932 election to be part of the Parliament of Catalonia.
Research and reflection on the past
The search for Lluís Coromina Verdaguer not only aims to draw Dalmau’s profile as a doctor and politician, but also seek to understand his influence on Girona’s republican thought. Coromina, Doctor of Contemporary History from the University of Girona, has dedicated his thesis to the study of medical and pharmaceutical memory places in Catalonia, providing a new perspective on the training of professional identities during the 20th century.
A legacy that lasts
This research is not only recognized by the figure of Laureà Dalmau i Pla, but also to contribute to the knowledge of the generation of Girona Republicans, including Josep Premium.cat i Bosch, President of the Generalitat in exile. His life and work are still a source of inspiration and a reflection of the Catalan republican spirit.
