The Revolution of May 1st – a change of course
This year, the celebration of May 1st has left the traditional nucleus of Barcelona behind to move to the Vallcarca district. This decision, promoted by the Union Table of Catalonia, marks a new stage in the vindication of labor rights. The unitary manifesto, which has the signing of various unions such as Solidaritat Obrera and CGT Catalunya, highlights the worrying situation of 700,000 Catalans fighting severe poverty, emphasizing the impact of high housing prices and the shopping basket.
Vallcarca: a symbol of neighborhood struggle
Vallcarca has emerged as a symbol of the struggle for access to housing, where neighbors have fought stigmatization and precarious living conditions. The motto that will head the rally, ‘against war and capital: from here and outside, we are the same working class’, reflects the unity and determination of a group that seeks to make his voice heard.
Alert against far -right and lack of labor rights
The unions have expressed concern about increasing the far right, with Vox and Catalan Alliance leading this trend. In addition, they emphasized that policies on the Social Democratic bloc also represent a threat to labor rights. The demand for the repeal of the gag law and the regularization of migrants are some of the claims that are in force, in the hope that the current government will meet these needs.
International Solidarity and Critics of Military Investments
Internationally, the march will not only be limited to local issues, but will also transmit messages of support to causes such as those of Palestine and Kurdistan. In addition, protesters will call for mass investments in weapons, with an impact of 850 billion euros that support NATO military machinery.
Proposals for a fairer future
The participants of the march consider the recent rises of the minimum wage and pensions, in a context of increasing inflation that affects the basic services. They propose innovative measures such as the implementation of a four -day work week and equality in the distribution of care tasks between men and women. Mobilizations in Valencia and other cities
In Valencia, the manifestation will focus on the management of the DANA, with an emphasis on access to housing and the defense of the territory. Alternative unions have also organized mobilizations in other cities, including Vinaròs and Castellón. In Castellón, a popular lunch is expected at the end of the march, encouraging cohesion among participants.
Pre -Activities on May 1st
The Intersindical has prepared a series of talks and activities prior to May 1st, as well as two demonstrations with the slogan ‘We want to decide to live better!’. The March of Barcelona will end with a lunch in the Parc de l’Estació del Nord, while in Girona, a musical performance is expected along with the union event.
