Significant investment in infrastructure

The Spanish government has announced an investment plan amounting to 200 million euros between 2024 and 2033. This amount will be allocated to the construction of a new road that will connect Terrassa with Castellar del Vallès, thus completing the continuity of the fourth belt (B-40).

Agreement between administrations

Recently, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published a formal agreement between the State and the Generalitat, which details the responsibility of the Spanish government in the total financing of the infrastructure. The Generalitat, for its part, will be in charge of the necessary procedures for the study of the route and the environmental procedures.

Conditions of the agreement

The agreement establishes that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will be responsible for managing and approving projects related to the construction of the road, following state regulations. It also defines that, once the works are completed, the new road will be transferred to the State.

Project forecasts and warnings

According to the official document, the years 2029 to 2032 will be crucial for investment, with a budget of 40 million euros per year. However, the need for additional agreement is highlighted should costs exceed initial estimates.

Civil society reactions

The Campaign Against the Fourth Belt (CCQC) collective has expressed its opposition to the project, announcing its intention to file a contentious administrative appeal. Its spokesman, Toni Altaió, stated that this agreement confirms the Spanish government’s intentions to continue with the project, despite environmental objections.

Criticism of the management of the Generalitat

Altaió has criticized the role that the Generalitat will play, considering it as a subcontractor with little power over the project. He has also stressed the importance of including the voices of local entities in the environmental processing process.

Perspectives futures

With this new agreement, questions are raised about the environmental and social impact that the construction of this road may have. The community and environmental organizations will continue to closely monitor the situation, demanding transparency and participation in the decision-making processes.
