A collective cry against gender violence

November 25th was marked by a series of events in several municipalities in the Camp de Tarragona region, with Tarragona and Reus at the forefront, to make their voices heard against gender violence, a problem that continues to grow in our society.

Tarragona: Manifesto and performances for equality

The day began in Tarragona with the reading of a manifesto in front of the city hall, with the Minister for Equality, Cecilia Mangini, present. Several members of the council, together with technicians from the Women’s Information and Attention Service (SIAD), were in charge of transmitting a message of unity and firmness.

Commemorative events and art for the cause

After the reading, the performance ‘Trio la Vida’ by Amaia Dorronsoro enriched the event with an artistic note. In the afternoon, the 25N Promoter Group organized a demonstration that began in Plaça Imperial Tàrraco and culminated in Plaça de la Font, where a new reading of the manifesto was held and an emotional ceremony in memory of the victims of male violence

Reus: A tribute to the victims

In Reus, Mayor Sandra Guaita presided over the central event, which included a minute of silence in memory of the 40 women murdered by gender-based violence this year. Councilor Anabel Martínez Serrano read the names of the victims, recalling the importance of not forgetting those who have lost their lives.

The strength of survivor voices

The most moving moment was the reading of the institutional statement by Chrifa Kaddouri Jeffali, a survivor of gender-based violence, who brought a personal and powerful perspective to the event.

Cambrils: Young voices in the fight against violence

Cambrils gave prominence to young people in its commemoration, with students from various high schools reading manifestos reflecting their reflections and concerns about gender violence. Mayor Alfredo Clúa and councilor Gemma Balanyà opened the event with a clear message about the need for cultural changes to eradicate this scourge.

Artistic performances for the cause

The day culminated with a choreography by students from the Cambrils Institute, who performed the ‘Song of Struggle’ by Roba Estesa, highlighting the importance of the feminist struggle through art.

Initiatives in La Canonja and the Port of Tarragona

The Canonja also actively participated in the commemorations, with activities that included the reading of a manifesto by Mayor Roc Muñoz. Councilwoman Nereida González stressed the need for courageous responses to such a complex issue.

Awareness raising at the Port of Tarragona

At the Port of Tarragona, an awareness day was organized for staff, with the presence of Santiago J. Castellà, president of the Port Authority, who emphasized the importance of equality and support for victims of gender violence.

The Tarragonès Regional Council: A collective commitment

The Tarragonès Regional Council read the manifesto, reaffirming its commitment to the fight against violence against women. They have also designed a campaign for 2024 that seeks to address violence in a broader context, with the active participation of municipalities.

Through these actions, Camp de Tarragona presents itself as an example of mobilization and collective awareness against gender violence, with the desire to build a more just and egalitarian future.
