16th Im a Mila Award of Periodism · Global Voices
The city of Law hosted a significant ceremony yesterday with the grant of the 18th century Premia of Periodism, an event seeking to give visibility to women and to defend their rights. The Lieutenant of Bengal mayor, Carme Valles, and the president of the Co-Coa of Journalists Act, Laura Mayor, led the event held in the Hall of the Reule, accompanied by other authorities and representatives of the consitators.
A commitment to gender equality
Valles highlighted the need for a greater equitity, quoting the journalist Clara Ardévol: women continue to be seen as objects, not as subjects. He pointed out the inequality that persists in areas such as salary and responsibilities, a trouble that is particularly claimed during #8M. The mayor’s lieutenant made a call to join men to join the fight for equality, underlined that without their cooperation, we cannot advance.
Recognized jobs: a mirror from female reality
Mayor praiseed the awarded reports, which reflect a remarkable sensitivity for women’s reality, he remarked that if ‘if they don’t speak of a topic, it doesn’t exist, so it made a call to put focus on gender equality as a goal to achieve.

The jury granted the awards to various works which lead relevant basics:

Additional recognition and extension of categories
In total, the Mila Prize distributed 6,000 euros, with each category under 1,500 euros. Moreover, it was decided to employ the funds of a desert category to another news work highlighted in digital media. This year, the prize received a record number of 37 jobs, duplicating the participation of the previous edition.
Recognized Accentrics
Two accessers were also granted: one at the first and last generation of lighthouses, of Maria Teresa Amious, documenting the history of women in a traditional male business, and another to the waves, which celebrates the role of women on radio throughout their first century of history in Catalonia.
A most female future
The Mila Award of Periodism is appointed together by the Council of Law and the Contectation of Catalonia’s journalists-Demarkation of Law, with the aim of promoting and encouraging jobs that promote gender equality in all areas. This initiative is part of the Platal regions of U.S.E.E.E.E.E.S., intended to move forward to a more fair and equal future.
