Return of Aid to the IBI: A breath of fresh air for Families
The Blanes municipal meeting held recently has marked a decisive moment for families facing the Property Tax (IBI) on their homes. After a break from 2021, the grants are available again, allowing both owners and tenants who pay IBI to access this support.
Improvements in the Access Conditions
The new conditions have been designed to be more inclusive. One of the most significant changes is the removal of the vehicle limit that restricted access to aid. Now, families will not be penalized for having more than three vehicles, a restriction that had created unfair situations.
In addition, the previous regulation that limited the cadastral value of properties to €60,000 has been modified. Now, only the value of the usual home is considered, facilitating access to a greater number of families that were previously excluded.
Increase in Income Limits
Another positive aspect is the increase in the annual income limit for cohabitation units, which has gone from €24,000 to €26,000, benefiting single-parent families in particular. In addition, the amount allocated to these grants has tripled, reaching €150,000, a notable increase compared to the previous €50,000.
Fiscal Ordinances: Adjustments for 2025
In another of the important decisions taken during the session, the Fiscal Ordinances and Public Prices for the year 2025 have been presented. The general values are maintained, with a 3.3% increase in the IBI and the reintroduction of the fee for keeping dogs and cats.
Technical adjustments have been made to better reflect the current costs of services such as bird and insect nest removal. Ticket prices for the Blanes Theater have also been updated, with a new price structure according to the location of the seats.
A Call to Respect in the Municipal Debate
Before the start of the debate, the mayor, Jordi Hernández, read a statement that emphasized the importance of respect in plenary sessions. He insisted that the plenary must be a space for constructive dialogue, and that it is unacceptable to disrespect public workers.
Other Subjects Treated
The plenary also approved other relevant points, such as the modification of the current budget and the bases for subsidies for neighborhood parties. All groups agreed on the approval of some measures, while the debate on the relationship of jobs generated several abstentions.
Finally, the POUM amendment project was approved again after correcting a previously detected technical error. This project affects a strip of land north of the access road to the Costa Brava, and had the support of most groups, with the CUP abstaining.
