A new collection system for the Montserrat neighborhood
The City Council of Reus has started a pioneering initiative to improve waste management in the Montserrat district. From April 7, a waste collection system will be implemented that will be performed directly at the door of the neighbors, with the aim of fostering environmental sustainability and awareness.
Informative sessions for the community
Residents will be able to participate in various informative sessions scheduled to better understand the new system. These meetings will take place between March 20 and 29, with several time slots to facilitate the assistance of everyone. In addition, reinforcement with informative tents at strategic points in the neighborhood has been planned.
Dates and key places
The sessions will be held in the following days and hours:
– Thursday, March 20: mornings (11:00, 12:00, 13:00)
– Friday, March 21: afternoons (18:30, 19:30, 20:30)
– Saturday, March 22: Mornings (11:00, 12:00, 13:00)
In addition, from March 26 to 29, the street information will be strengthened with tents at different locations.
Materials and resources for collection
In these sessions, neighbors will receive a kit that includes several buckets for waste separation, as well as information material and compostable bags. This facility will help to ensure proper waste management in the household.
A system designed for efficiency
Porta a Porta collection is recognized as one of the most effective methods of increasing recycling levels, with the aim of achieving a selective collection rate of more than 80%. Neighbors will only have to remove the bucket on the assigned dates, thus facilitating the process.
Collection and calendar guide
The system will require a meticulous separation of waste, including fractions such as organic, packaging, paper and cardboard. Each type of waste will have its specific bucket, and it is important to follow the instructions to prevent waste from being collected.
Collection procedures
Waste must be deposited as follows:
– Organic: brown bucket with compostable bag.
– Packaging: White bucket with plastic bag.
– Paper and cardboard: 40L bucket without a bag, with large cardboard next to it.
– Rest: White bucket with plastic bag.
– Sanitary textile: gray bin with plastic bag.
Commitment to sustainability
In addition to this new initiative, the Reus City Council has pledged resources to ensure that neighbors who cannot attend information sessions receive the necessary information through visits from environmental educators. This ensures that all residents are well informed and can participate actively in waste management.
The future of waste collection in Reus
With the entry into force of this new system, Reus seeks to establish a collection model that is not only efficient, but also an example of sustainability for other municipalities. Monitoring and use of waste management applications will be key to ensuring the success of this initiative.
