A new chapter in urban governance
Reus City Council is starting an ambitious renaturation project, known as RENATUReus, which seeks to integrate citizens into the process of environmental transformation. Recently, the tender was opened to hire services that encourage participation and awareness of the importance of urban biodiversity.
The impact of biodiversity on community health
The initiative not only focuses on improving the natural environment, but also seeks to establish a direct link between people’s health and the quality of urban habitats. Involving the community is essential to ensure that renaturalization actions have a positive impact on citizens’ daily lives.
Two batches for a common goal
The contract is divided into two parts: one dedicated to the promotion of public participation and the other to the effective communication of the projects. With a total budget of 122,088.57 euros, an execution period of 12 months is foreseen to implement these initiatives.
Creation of the Citizen Observatory of Biodiversity
One of the outstanding proposals of the project is the establishment of the Biodiversity Citizen Observatory. This platform will function as a meeting point for the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of ideas between the community and the authorities on the importance of biodiversity.
Participation and education activities
The observatory will organize several events, such as workshops for observing local flora and fauna, routes to learn about the city’s trees, and citizen science activities. These initiatives will not only educate the population, but also foster a deeper connection with their natural environment.
Education as an engine of change
The communication of the project will include various educational materials, such as videos and brochures, to sensitize the population on the importance of preserving the natural heritage of Reus. This pedagogical approach aims to encourage changes in citizens’ daily habits, promoting a more sustainable life.
Best practices for the community
The actions taken will be documented in a bank of good practices, accessible through the municipal website. This collection will allow citizens to learn from previous experiences and apply them in their own lives.
European support in the transformation of Reus
The RENATUReus project has funding of 4.2 million euros thanks to Next Generation grants from the European Union. This initiative seeks to improve the quality of life in Reus, promoting the conservation of biodiversity and adapting the city to the challenges of climate change.
With RENATUReus, Reus is not only heading towards a greener future, but also inviting its citizens to be agents of change in their community, demonstrating that active participation is essential for a healthier and more sustainable environment.
