A new green project in the heart of the city
The Reus City Council has given the green light to an innovative initiative that will transform a plot of land located on Carrer d’Astorga into a space dedicated to urban agriculture. With the creation of 21 vegetable plots, the city seeks to promote sustainability and organic agriculture.
Environmental and social benefits
This project not only aims to increase green space in Reus, but also fosters community, the renaturalization of the environment and the creation of a new meeting point. The new plots will join the 35 already existing in different neighborhoods, improving access to local agriculture.
Integration with the RENATUReus project
The initiative is part of the city’s renaturalization actions, funded by European Next Generation grants. The gardens will connect with the transformation of Astorga Street into a civic axis, with a design that will prioritize pedestrians and vegetation, creating a more pleasant environment.
Innovative design and sustainable practices
The future orchards are designed to maximize productivity with minimal maintenance. With a ridge planting system, each user will have access to four plots, with a crop rotation that will enhance yield and soil health.
A space for the community
In addition to the plots, the project includes rest and meeting areas, with natural shade and vegetation, to encourage exchange between neighbors and promote a healthier lifestyle.
Technical and budgetary aspects
The drafting of the project has been awarded to Anna Castellà Fabregat, with a budget of 6,081.23 euros. The works will have a duration of three months and a total cost of 120,000 euros, thus guaranteeing a rapid implementation of the initiative.
A sustainable future for Reus
With this initiative, Reus reaffirms its commitment to the environment and sustainability, working in collaboration with the MITECO Biodiversity Foundation to guarantee a greener and more resilient future for all its citizens.
