A worrying reality about the use of Catalan
Recent data reveal that a quarter of the Catalan population never uses Catalan, and that no age group achieves even 50% use of the language. These statistics are a warning sign that requires a decisive and positive response.
Initiatives to promote the use of Catalan
Recently, the Junts – Impulsem group in the Diputació de Lleida took a significant step in defending the language. A motion was approved that establishes a regulation to guarantee the use of Catalan in all administrative procedures, as well as the creation of a Taula pel Catalan. This initiative seeks to ensure that Catalan is the priority language in interaction with citizens.
Training and awareness-raising as fundamental pillars
It is essential that public employees receive adequate language training and that awareness-raising programs are implemented to promote the use of Catalan. It is unacceptable that documents are frequently presented in Spanish under the justification of administrative requirements, since the Statute of Catalonia clearly establishes that Catalan must be the official language of the administrations.
The Table for Catalan: a tool for the future
The new Taula pel Catalan is presented as a strategic platform to promote the use of Catalan in the regions of Ponent and Alt Pirineu. Its function will be to take advantage of the resources of the Provincial Council to drive the promotion of the language, involving all social and political agents in this cause.
Collaboration between institutions and society
It is crucial that the Provincial Council establishes collaborations with social, cultural and business entities, not only to address social and economic issues, but also to advance language policies that strengthen Catalan in the region.
A historic commitment for the language
Enric Prat de la Riba, recognized as the architect of national self-government through the provincial councils, expressed the desire to give the Catalan language a central role in everyday life. Today, we commit to continuing this mission in the regions of Ponent and Alt Pirineu, working for a future where Catalan is present in all areas.
With collective determination and a strategic approach, we can transform this reality and ensure a vibrant future for Catalan in our society.
