A Cultural Response to Depopulation
The impact of depopulation is a phenomenon that affects many communities in Catalonia, and to address this issue, the ‘Moved Villages’ project has designed an agenda rich in cultural activities. From November 7th to February 15th, various cultural spaces of the Diputació de Tarragona will become stages of art and reflection on this social issue.
Cultural Spaces: An Engine of Creativity
With the aim of strengthening the cultural life of the territory, the president of the Provincial Council, Noemí Llauradó, has highlighted the importance of eight spaces that will form part of this network, including the Palace of the Provincial Council and the Museum of Modern Art . Llauradó has emphasized his vision of creating synergies with both public and private agents, thus fostering a diverse artistic ecosystem.
A Varied Programming
The ‘Moved Villages’ project will include around thirty activities distributed in five areas, ranging from educational proposals at the School of Art to cycles of artistic experiences at the Museum of Modern Art. This approach will allow exploring the relationship between art and the territory in an innovative way.
Terraplena: A Journey to the Past
One of the outstanding initiatives is ‘Terraplena’, the work of the artist Manuel Moranta, which will be presented on November 7. This proposal not only examines depopulation, but also seeks to connect with former residents of the village of Marmellar, one of the many abandoned sites in the region.
Community Collaboration
Moranta has worked closely with former residents of Marmellar to create an inventory of words that represent the essence of the place. From this compilation, he has selected a hundred terms that will be interpreted by various artists, offering a rich perspective on identity and cultural memory.
A Promising Future for Local Art
The ‘Pobles Mudats’ initiative is more than just a cycle of activities; it is an invitation to reimagine the cultural future of the region. Through a year and a half of collaboration with artists from various disciplines, this project seeks not only to give visibility to local art but also to revitalize towns through creativity.
Conclusions i Perspectives
With the end of ‘Pobles Mudats’ scheduled for February 15 in the Joncosa del Montmell, a chapter closes that will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on the community and on the way in which the challenges of depopulation are addressed through of the art.
