Active police investigation
On January 17, Mossos d’Esquadra officers from the Igualada police station arrested a 40-year-old man, accused of being responsible for several robberies that had taken place in establishments in the area. This police action is the result of an investigation that began at the beginning of the month, when two robberies were recorded in the same business and another in a local restaurant.
Series of methodical robberies
The incidents that caught the attention of the officers occurred on significant dates: the first robbery at the company occurred on November 20, followed by another on January 6, and the restaurant was the victim of a robbery on January 5. In all of these cases, the perpetrator entered the premises in the early hours of the morning, forcing the doors and windows to steal money, drinks and a laptop.
A robbery with violence
On the morning of January 5, the Mossos received a worrying report of a violent robbery at a hospitality establishment. A female worker was surprised by an individual who, with a knife in his hand, forced his way into the bar. In a moment of confusion, the woman managed to escape and hide in a room, where she was able to alert the emergency services.
Detention and discovery of stolen objects
After an intensive investigation, officers identified that all the robberies had a common pattern, pointing to the same person. On January 17, police located and arrested the individual in Vilanova del Camí, where he was found in possession of several bags full of objects of dubious origin. Subsequent investigations revealed that these items had been stolen from two homes between January 10 and 13.
An extensive criminal record
The arrested man is linked to robberies in a company and a restaurant in Igualada, as well as robberies in homes in Vilanova del Camí and the robbery with violence in the hospitality establishment. After his arrest, he was presented before the Igualada Magistrate’s Court, where his legal situation will be studied.
