Negotiations still pending
Jéssica Albiach, leader of the Commons in Parliament, has been clear in affirming that her formation has not started talks about a possible incorporation into the Government of the socialist Salvador Illa. In statements made on August 2, Albiach stressed the importance of proceeding with caution, indicating that “we must take decisions gradually.”
Conditions for future collaboration
Although Albiach does not rule out the possibility of allying with Illa if he is elected president of the Generalitat, he has insisted that it is imperative that the leader of the PSC demonstrate a firm commitment to the progressive agenda, beyond simple agreements. “I need to see actions that respond to a genuine desire for change and not just promises similar to those of Junts”, he commented during an interview with Catalunya Ràdio.
The current situation of the Parliament
Albiac has recalled that, should Illa be elected president, he will begin his mandate with a minimum majority, with only 42 PSC seats, which will make it very difficult for him to govern without the need to agree with other political formations. “You will necessarily have to look for alliances if you want to move forward with any legislative proposal,” he said.
Repercussions of Puigdemont’s possible return
In relation to the hypothetical return to Catalonia of former president Carles Puigdemont, Albiach defended his right to return “when he decides”, stressing that the recent approval of the Amnesty Law should facilitate his situation. He pointed out that Puigdemont’s presence should not have a negative influence on the country’s politics or the electoral results.

In addition, the leader of the Commons did not rule out the possibility of delaying the investiture debate if Puigdemont were arrested, remembering that the period to avoid an electoral repeat ends on August 26.
