Relive the heritage: a new space for the community
The Ciutat Vella District has embraced an ambitious rehabilitation project of the old cooperative in the 20th century, located on Atlàntida Street, with the aim of turning the building into a cultural and educational center for the residents of Barceloneta. With an area of 682 square meters and four floors, this property seeks to regain its community essence.
Investment and Commitment: A step forward
Albert Batlle, Deputy Mayor and Head of the District, emphasized the importance of this project, which has a budget of more than 3 million euros and a execution period of 16 months. This rehabilitation not only seeks to restore the building, but also to reactivate the cultural activity of the neighborhood.
A Versatile Space for the Community
The new facility will include several facilities such as a multipurpose room, meeting spaces, an auditorium with stage, and rooms dedicated to radio and audiovisual production. This responds to a historical demand of the neighbors, who have called for a place where cultural and educational activities can be carried out.

Ivan Pera, Commissioner of the Pact by Ciutat Vella, emphasized the cultural heritage of the building, which was a meeting point for the labor movement. Rehabilitation is an opportunity to recover not only a physical space, but also a legacy that has been part of the neighborhood’s life for more than a century.

The project seeks to transform the old cooperative into a ‘cultural laboratory’, where neighbors can participate in various activities, from art workshops to educational talks, thus fostering the sense of community and social cohesion.
Impulse to Barceloneta: an integral vision
In addition to the rehabilitation of the building, the City Council has allocated a total of 31 million euros to improve the Barceloneta infrastructure, including the renewal of urban furniture and the maintenance of public spaces. These investments respond to the needs expressed by the neighbors and seek to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.
A historical investment
Of the 31 million euros, 18 are allocated to specific projects such as the renewal of the cooperative in the twentieth century, as well as other educational and leisure facilities, with the intention of revitalizing the community and preparing it for future events, such as the Copa America de Vela.
