The fight of the SAD Union of Sant Feliu de Llobregat for the municipalization of the Home Care Service

The defense of the workers of the Home Care Service

The SAD Union of Sant Feliu de Llobregat has been highlighting the importance of looking after the Home Care Service for some time. The workers, who have been organized in their own union since 2020, demand the municipalization of the service in view of the existing working conditions. In opposition to the government’s proposal of 2022, which proposes a mixed management with the Consorci de Salut i Social de Catalunya, the union considers this option as another form of outsourcing to a private company.

Changes in the management model of the Home Care Service

During 2020, the workers of the Sant Feliu de Llobregat Home Care Service denounced the precarious working conditions and demanded the municipalization of the service. A new union, the SAD Union, was formed in response to these concerns, with the aim of offering support to women workers beyond Sant Feliu. Mixed management initiatives such as the one proposed by the government in 2021 with the S21 Foundation, of the Health Consortium, were not well received by the union, which continued to defend the need for changes in the management model.

Reactions to the ruling and future direction

A judgment of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia has declared null and void the award of the Home Care Service by the Ajuntament del Prat to the Consorci de Salut i Social de Catalunya. This has generated additional concern in the SAD Union, which has expressed the need for a change of model in the face of this situation. In response to this, the Councilor for Social Services supports exploring options to guarantee the best conditions for users and workers.

Long-term goals

The final goal of the SAD Union is the municipalization of the Home Care Service in Sant Feliu. This organization, which has more than 100 affiliated people, fights to dignify working conditions and improve the services provided, while defending the need to eliminate precarious and privatized labor practices.
