A Singular Bibliographic Fund

Despite being a modest library, the Marina Capdevila Oller stands out for its rich collection of documents that tell the story of Castellvell del Camp. Beyond the number of novels that readers often seek, their true value lies in the works that testify to the local past, as well as in the memories that have left their mark on the community.

Stories that mark

Authors such as Maria Teresa Monné, who left this world at such a young age, have left a legacy through their letters, published by Claret. Also, the memoirs of the journalist Josep Maria Martí and the ‘Miscellaneous Castellvellenques’ by Esteve Sugranyes have become essential documents for understanding the history of this town.

Birthday and literary celebrations

Recently, the Library has celebrated its third anniversary, marking a significant moment after its recast in 2022. This renewal has allowed to integrate into the Generalitat’s public reading network, facilitating access to a greater diversity of literary materials and activities for all tastes.

A day full of activities

Within the framework of World Poetry Day, the Library organized a series of activities that made readers the protagonists. The librarian Alba Miró has been key in the revitalization of this cultural space, encouraging the creation of reading clubs and other initiatives that encourage citizen participation.

The role of the community

During the celebration, the Councilor for Culture, Jordi Jové, reviewed the scheduled events, while the mayor, Josep Manel Sabaté, expressed the pride of Castellvell to be part of a network that promotes knowledge and culture. Sabaté emphasized that over the last year, more than 3,000 books have been borrowed, demonstrating the impact of the library on the daily life of its citizens.

Fostering reading

The creation of reading clubs, especially for children and young people, has been a resounding success. The aim of promoting the habit of reading has been a priority, recognizing that reading is an instrument of freedom and imagination. The mayor concluded his speech with a poem by Miquel Martí i Pol, strengthening the value of poetry.

Awards and shows

The highlight of the day was the reading of poems by the reading clubs, as well as the awards ceremony of the book points contest, which had 34 participants. Carlota Ortiz and Míriam Ciré were the winners in the children’s and adult categories, respectively.

A closure with music

The celebration concluded with a snack and a show dedicated to the life of Dr. Alexandre Frías, a pioneer in pediatrics. The Mestral Choir closed the day with a concert of poetic music, thus starting to a week of activities called the Cultural Spring, which promises to excite and enrich the community.
