A New Era for Cultural Heritage
Palau Moja has welcomed Espai Moja, a revolutionary project that seeks to reimagine the way Catalan cultural heritage is presented and experienced. Located on the ground floor of an emblematic building on Barcelona’s Ramblas, this new initiative offers a total immersion in the history of Catalonia, and does so with an investment of 2.8 million euros.
Inauguration With Cultural Authorities
Last Thursday, the new space was inaugurated by the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar, accompanied by key figures from the cultural sector, including Joaquim Borràs, general director of Cultural Heritage, and Marta Antuñano, head of strategy at the Catalan Agency for Cultural Heritage.
Technology and History: A Powerful Combination
Thanks to the use of cutting-edge technologies such as virtual reality and holograms, visitors can immerse themselves in crucial moments in Catalan history. The space presents historical figures, iconic monuments and traditional festivals that merge into a unique experience that reflects the diversity and cultural richness of Catalonia.
An Inclusive Approach
With the aim of making heritage accessible to everyone, Espai Moja has designed content adapted for various audiences, including options in easy reading, sign language and audio description, thus ensuring that everyone can enjoy its cultural offering.
El Palau Moja: A Cultural Heritage of National Interest
The Palau Moja, a neoclassical building located in the heart of Barcelona, is much more than just a historical building. Declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest, it houses the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and offers guided tours that allow visitors to discover the rooms that were home to prominent figures of the Catalan bourgeoisie.
A Cafeteria and Tourist Information Point
In addition to the Espai Moja, the palace has expanded its offering with a new tourist information point managed by the Generalitat and a cafeteria that offers convenient access from the Rambla, managed by the family business Gil Forn de Pa i Pastisseria.
The ‘Eyes of History’ Project
The Espai Moja is part of the ‘Els Ulls de la Història’ project, which seeks to bring Catalan heritage closer to citizens through innovative stories and immersive technology. This initiative includes the renovation of the narrative and museography of five historical monuments, as well as the educational experience in schools.
Future Renovations
Upcoming projects include the renovation of the Vall de Boí Complex, the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes and the Miravet Castle, thus expanding access to and understanding of Catalan cultural heritage to new generations.
With this new proposal, Espai Moja positions itself as a benchmark in the promotion and dissemination of cultural heritage, attracting both locals and tourists to explore the roots and history that define Catalonia.
