An unexpected twist
Since 2019, no photograph of Leonor with Juan Carlos has been seen. Although Letizia and Felipe separated the Bourbons after the scandals of the emeritus and the Nóos case, the emeritus continued to attend events related to their granddaughters. But August 2020 marked a radical change in the relationship between the former monarch and the future queen. Juan Carlos was exiled to the Arab Emirates, a fact that meant dishonor and humiliation for a monarch. Despite this, he has returned to Spain on several occasions, with increasing frequency, and no longer asks his son for permission to do so. However, photographs of the emeritus with his two granddaughters have been avoided. In fact, last October 31 he attended Leonor’s coming-of-age dinner at ‘El Pardo’ and was also unable to be present at the swearing in of the flag, as was his wish.
A distant relationship
Leonor does not have a close relationship with her grandfather. He has not gone to visit him in the Arab Emirates and in Spain they have only met on a few occasions. Although she has been several times to Zaragoza, where the princess studies her military training, she has not been allowed access to the military center. Letizia ordered that her father-in-law not see the princess in public and did not want a single photograph of the two of them together.
Protecting Eleanor’s reign
The mission is to protect Leonor’s reign from the image projected by Juan Carlos. She will be the future queen of Spain and they want her to have nothing to do with the Bourbon surname. Leonor represents a new era for the Spanish monarchy, while her parents are still at half throttle.
Leonor takes the lead
Leonor is growing up and is of age. Comply with institutional acts independently, as happened this Tuesday morning. The princess has three unavoidable commitments in Zaragoza and, on this occasion, she will not have the visit or support of her parents or grandparents. However, Queen Sofia and Juan Carlos are very proud of their granddaughter.
A new step towards the future
Next July 15 will be another important day for Leonor. After completing the first year of military training with the Land Army, the princess will receive the office of Ensign of the Army at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, thus marking the conclusion of the first part of her studies. On this occasion, the princess will sweep her way without the presence of her parents or grandparents. It will be a moment of pride for her and will mark the beginning of a new stage at the Naval Academy of Marín, in Pontevedra.
The denial of the presence of Juan Carlos
According to ‘Monarquia Confidencial’, Juan Carlos had expressed his desire to attend the event, but the Royal House has denied his presence once again. It is not expected to be present. This is another disappointment for the ex-monarch, who has been dealt several hard blows by the crown.
