Planting of native vegetation on the dune ridge
Altafulla City Council has successfully completed the final phase of the renaturation of the Voramar Park.
In this last month of December, the dune ridge was rebuilt using the sand accumulated in the last two years.
In order to retain the sand and create a natural barrier against the waves, several species of native vegetation have been planted.
Collaboration of the students of the Work Transition Plan (PTT) of Altafulla
The planting has been carried out with the support of the students of the Work Transition Plan (PTT) of Altafulla and the Municipal Brigade.
According to the City Council’s statement, plant species have been used that have deep roots and contribute to the maintenance of the sand.
Shrubby plants, such as tamarius, have been planted further back, while herbs more resistant to the onslaught of the sea have been placed in the front line.
Dune maintenance and damage prevention
Periodic maintenance of the dune is planned, especially during storms, to guarantee its integrity.
In case of damage caused by inclement weather, the necessary repairs will be made and the vegetation will be replaced.
After the storm of April 2022, which broke the dune, 350 cubic meters of sand were removed to completely rebuild the dune ridge.
In addition, the drainage system has been improved to prevent the accumulation of water and protect the park from erosive effects.
Now, with this complete renovation, the Voramar Park is consolidated as a protected natural area of great environmental value.
