The Pi-Proposal for the Balearic Islands calls for no increase in airport and port fees
The political party El Pi de les Illes Balears urges to avoid the increase in port and airport fees for journeys with origin or destination in the Balearic Islands. According to Antoni Salas, spokesman for El Pi, this increase in rates negatively affects the mobility of residents and generates disadvantages for the neighbors of the islands.
AENA and the Ministry of Transport are asked to reconsider the application of this increase in fees specifically to the airports of the Balearic Islands. This will prevent an additional increase in the price of plane tickets. Ryanair, for example, has announced its intention to invest 500 million euros elsewhere if airport charges rise.
Dependence on air and sea transport is crucial for the residents of the Balearic Islands, as they do not have an integrated railway or road network. The increase in rates would negatively affect the price of imported products in the islands and make it difficult for local companies to compete.
Impact on the tourism and economic sector
El Pi emphasizes that the increase in airport taxes will also have a detrimental impact on the tourism sector, which is vital for the economy of the Balearic Islands. According to Salas, this will reduce the competitiveness of the islands as a tourist destination and negatively affect the industry in general.
It is important to avoid the increase in port and airport fees in the Balearic Islands to ensure more accessible mobility for residents, maintain competitive prices for imported products and preserve tourism as the economic engine of the islands.
