A letter to defend one’s own language

Joan Andreu, 430 member and follower of RCD Mallorca since he was a child, sent this Thursday, January 25, a letter to the president of the sports organization through the official channels that he offers to members and fans, to express – to him his indignation and his disquiet about the language changes he has observed from the podium for some time.

The reason for addressing the president of the club, Andy Kohlberg, was “the substitution of Catalan for Spanish on the digital markers in our stadium on match days”. A situation that, according to the same complaining partner, did not happen until the last graphic update, at which time this renewal was used to marginalize the own language.

An appreciation and a comparison

Joan Andreu takes advantage of the letter to thank for other actions that, according to him, do follow a good Mallorcan line, such as “the association of the club with the demons or the bolero dances at the opening celebration”. And, finally, he draws an analogy between languages and football teams, stating that “Catalan will never be Madrid or Barça, nor will it win the league of languages, but if we all take care of it, respect it and get things done done well, Catalan can be like Mallorca and play in the first division of languages. And not suffer to descend to Second».

The letter has been published on his Twitter account, where he has received the support of many other RCD Mallorca fans who share his linguistic claim.
