A Moment of Communion
Every Monday morning, at ten o’clock, a group of volunteers have been gathering for some time to share a moment of prayer in the Santíssimo chapel, after breakfast for the guests.
A Diverse Community
Although the majority of attendees are of the Muslim faith, there is always also a group of Christian origin that actively participates and enriches our experience with their own lessons of faith and love.
Lessons of Faith
In that intimate atmosphere with the Lord, many who have faced great difficulties due to poverty, find again their connection with faith, often being moved during this moment of prayer.
Most of them reveal that they have not experienced this kind of relationship with God since their childhood, making prayer a deeply meaningful moment for them.
A Moment of Inspiration
For many of us, this experience gives us lessons in love, kindness and faith. It is a testimony to how a faith, perhaps not always well-fed, can gather us around the tabernacle to offer simple but sincere prayers.
An Act of Trust
Recently, it was my turn to lead the prayer and I shared a phrase from Saint Paul that has always inspired me: “I trust in Him in whom I have trusted” (2Tm 1,12). I connected this phrase to my own experience of trusting God throughout my life.
During this moment, I was moved by the heartfelt prayer of a man who, despite his homelessness, expressed his trust in God in a moving way.
An Evocative Memory
I remembered the words of the ancient fishermen and people without great knowledge, who answered Jesus with words of deep faith. I made these words my own on behalf of everyone present.
An Authentic Faith
Without following a specific liturgy, without elaborate formulas or readings taken from any prayer book, the simple words of this group of people with limited resources help us cultivate our own faith and love, especially at this stage of life.
